Traffic & Safety Rules

Demonstrate High Standards

Please set a high standard for our students and others by following these safety guidelines and instruct others to do the same. Any instructions given by staff or teachers are for the children's safety. Please be a good role model by following their instructions in a respectful manner.

Drop Off and Pick Up

The white zone, directly in front of the school, is for dropping off and picking up students only. Anyone staying in that zone beyond 3 minutes can be ticketed by SDPD. Please do not sit and wait in your car for your child. If they are not out front waiting for you, please circle the block or park close by to walk and pick them up. This zone exists for the safety of our students and so that other parents may access the zone quickly. Please be considerate!

The red zone is our bus loading zone. Do not stop or park in the red zone at any time.

Parking

Except for teacher and staff, there is no on-campus parking at Hearst Elementary. Please use the surrounding streets and be sure to use the crosswalks when you cross and do not walk through the center pide on Del Cerro Blvd. Please park in designated areas! Do not block driveways or crosswalks, park in white or red loading zones, or utilize our faculty lots.

Bicycle riding

Only 4th and 5th graders are allowed to ride bicycles to school unaccompanied by an adult. California law requires helmets for all riders under the age of 18. Review and follow all safety rules. See the San Diego Police Department's Safety Sam page for great tips.
