Tardies, Absences & Illnesses

School Kids

School attendance is very important for every child, including transitional kinders and kinders. Children will miss valuable instruction if they are not in school and they may not pass to the next grade if absences are excessive. We strongly encourage you to schedule your vacations and medical or dental appointments during school vacations or after school hours. Children may be required to make up missed work during part of recess if they are tardy.

We at Hearst are required by law to keep a record of both tardies and absences, and their reasons. Parents are required to report a tardy or absence within 24 hours.

To report your child's absence, please call the school office at (619) 860.5400 by 9:00 a.m. on the first day of absence and each consecutive day thereafter. A message may be left if the office is closed stating the child's name, room number, date of absence and reason for absence.
